Hot Days, Cool Words: Chinese Language Tips for Beating the Heat

As the sun blazes and the temperatures soar, the summer heat can sometimes throw unexpected challenges our way. In this article, we're here to equip you with a toolkit of essential Chinese phrases that will come to your rescue during the scorching days. Whether you're a traveler exploring new places or a resident braving the heat, mastering these expressions will ensure you stay cool, comfortable, and ready to conquer any summertime hurdle.

Hangzhou Municipal Meteorological Observatory issued an orange-level high-temperature warning on July 12, 2023, at 9:31 a.m.:

Due to the influence of the subtropical high-pressure system, Hangzhou will experience persistently high temperatures until this Friday (14th), with the maximum temperature reaching 37-39°C and locally exceeding 39°C.

The scorching heat will continue. The temperature will be especially high from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so it is recommended to avoid prolonged outdoor activities during this time. 🥵

“请问你是完全不给人活路吗?”
qǐng mèn nǐ shì wán quán bù gěi rén huó lù ma?

Excuse me, are you going to kill me?

With such weather, it's no wonder everyone complains:

rè  sǐ  le

热死了!

It's so f**king hot!

To beat the heat, there are some essential items that we can't do without. Let's learn how to say them in Chinese:

* 开空调 kāi kōng tiáo:

* 关空调 guān kōng tiáo:

Examples:
